DAY 329

The Wisdom from Above

James 3:17
기원후 1세기
ORIGINAL
ἡ ἄνωθεν σοφία πρῶτον μὲν ἁγνή ἐστιν, ἔπειτα εἰρηνική, ἐπιεικής, εὐπειθής.
📜 THE VERSE

The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and willing to yield.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Is what I call wisdom a power to defeat others, or a power to be at peace with them?

📝Reflection

The face of true wisdom that James draws is, surprisingly, gentle: pure, peaceable, gentle, willing to yield. We often equate wisdom with sharp judgment or winning logic, but he offers a different picture. Real wisdom does not stir conflict—it makes peace. The Greek epieikes means "a generosity that does not press every point by the letter but weighs the situation and knows when to step back." Cleverness makes others submit; wisdom stands beside them.

🌱Apply It Today

Even when you could win an argument today, try stepping back and choosing peace instead.
