DAY 237

The Hand That Binds Broken Hearts

Psalm 147:3
기원전 10~5세기
ORIGINAL
הָרֹפֵא לִשְׁבוּרֵי לֵב וּמְחַבֵּשׁ לְעַצְּבוֹתָם
📜 THE VERSE

There is that which heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Do I believe my wounds can, someday, heal?

📝Reflection

This verse does not deny the wound. It first admits that a heart can be hurt, can break. And then it says: there is something that binds it up. The first step of healing is not to pretend the wound never happened, but to acknowledge the wound as a wound. I long pretended not to hurt, thinking that acting strong was what a grown-up did. But an unbound wound festers. To admit that the pain hurts, and to allow it the time and the touch of care — as a bodily wound heals through time and tending, so does the wound of the heart. The belief that it can heal was itself the beginning of the healing.

🌱Apply It Today

Today, to one wound of the heart you have pretended was fine, gently admit to yourself: "that hurt a great deal."
