How Good Is a Word in Season

Proverbs 15:23
기원전 10~4세기
ORIGINAL
שִׂמְחָה לָאִישׁ בְּמַעֲנֵה־פִיו וְדָבָר בְּעִתּוֹ מַה־טּוֹב
📜 THE VERSE

An apt reply brings joy, and how good is a word spoken in season.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Have I said the right word, but missed the moment when it was truly needed?

📝Reflection

Even a right word loses its power if it misses the moment. The Hebrew sage points not only to the content of speech but to the importance of its timing. The same advice, given when the other is ready to hear, becomes medicine; given when they are not, it becomes nagging. To advise hastily someone who needs comfort, and to hesitate at the moment that needs resolve — both come from failing to read the season. Wisdom lies not only in what to say but in when to say it, and when to stay silent. As even good seed must be sown in season to sprout, a good word must meet its moment to root in the heart. To know how to wait for the right time is itself the wisdom of speech.
