DAY 345

If Your Enemy Is Hungry, Feed Him

Romans 12:20
기원후 1세기
ORIGINAL
ἐὰν πεινᾷ ὁ ἐχθρός σου, ψώμιζε αὐτόν· ἐὰν διψᾷ, πότιζε αὐτόν.
📜 THE VERSE

If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink. In doing so you heap coals of fire on his head.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

To the one who hates me, how do I want to be remembered?

📝Reflection

To feed your enemy is not to force away your dislike. It is to act differently even while the dislike remains. The phrase "heap coals of fire on his head" is an ancient Near Eastern idiom, often read as shaming the other into repentance—melting their heart with goodness rather than revenge. Laozi too said, "Repay resentment with virtue." Repay hatred with hatred and the chain continues; break hatred with goodness and the chain stops in your own hand.
